Jumping the sinking ship

I have just discovered the excellent law apprentice blog. The writer of the blog works in I.T. It makes excellent reading.

I.T used to be a great way to earn a living, if you were self employed you got some excellent tax breaks, plus as there was a shortage of skilled workers, you could name your price.

The situation now is somewhat different, the tax breaks have gone and most of the work has been sent offshore to third world countries.

The Government is has no problems with a company recruiting in India and then bringing the worker to the U.K under the terms of the skilled migrants program in the knowledge that the worker will be paid less than half the going rate for the job, this is exploitation at its worst and nobody really cares. I have simply had enough hence the change of career.

I have spent the day in bed recovering from my night shift and have to endure the same again tonight (7pm - 7am) but then I get four days off during which I will look for some other work that will enable me to have some sort of social life.
